Just like you won’t drill into a wall without knowing where the studs are, it makes sense to find out where the underground utilities are before digging. Before conducting any excavation, either by hand or with machinery, contact your local One-Call Center in advance by calling ‘811’ —America’s national toll free number for requesting underground utility location. The One-Call Center will notify the facility owners in your area, who will send representatives to mark these facilities with flags, paint or other marks, helping you avoid damaging them.
